Work and Play

Jared and I are doing great. We have been up to the usual...work and play.

Jared has been hard at work his first year teaching. He generally works 12 or more hours a day. I work a 9 hour day and I drive an hour each way in rush hour...so I am "at work" for about 11 hours a day. Too bad I don't get paid for the drive time. Our jobs couldn't be more different. Jared works with kids grades 1st-8th. I work with students as well but they are all online students across the United States ages 18-67. Most of my students are getting a masters degrees and Jared teaches elementary ages. He works with students live. I only talk to my students over the phone. My job is very corporate and his job isn't. Check out these pictures and you can see that Jared's job is a little more...exciting for lack of a better word.

Jared's Job at Country Place Elementary School as an Art Teacher

Marcie's Job at The University of Phoenix as an Academic Counselor

This is my desk...yes I work in a cubical.

When we aren't working we are checking out fun things to do in the area. One of our most exciting finds lately is the Apple Store. It is such an awesome store. I am in love with the new iMac! It is a designer dream!

We also recently discovered the Cheesecake Factory. It is such a good restaurant and the portions are huge! It was delicious! I can't believe I have been missing out on it my whole life. We also love going to book stores. Jared checks out all the books and I check out the hot chocolate.

We love living near a big city. You can find almost anything...except clean air, light traffic and the great outdoors. We made up for that this weekend. We set up out tent on our balcony and slept in it last night. It was a resemblance of camping. I think we are having camping withdrawals.

Other than that Jared and I have grown quite accustomed to suburbia. One of the biggest perks is having every store imaginable within a three mile radius. Another fun aspect of being near a big city are the events. Jared and I are going to "Singing in the Rain" in two weekends. There are always shows, plays, and sporting events. The Superbowl was here in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago. The closest we go to the Superbowl was taking a picture of the Goodyear blimp.

If you haven't been down to visit us yet I hope this plug about Phoenix will inspire you to come visit. We love everyone and miss being close to all of our friends and family. Take care!
