Sewing Project

I was looking at nursing covers and concluded that they were too expensive and that I should sew my own. I will admit I have attempted a few sewing projects lately and they haven't turned out amazing, to say the least. With that said, I wanted a nursing cover and I wanted it cheap. So I worked up my courage and ordered some fabric from Etsy a couple of weeks ago. I just got the fabric in the mail yesterday. I was so excited to start the project that I found an online tutorial and finished it already. The best news is it actually turned out! A miracle for a sewing novice like me and I actually had fun!

We Are Absolutely Having a BOY!!!

Here is an update on Baby #2. I had another ultrasound this week (20 weeks) and we are absolutely having a boy. No doubt about it. They were also able to see the rest of the anatomy that they couldn't see in the 16 week ultrasound, like the heart and spine and everything looks perfect. What a relief!

Proof that it's a boy!

The baby was hiding his face pretty well so we didn't get any good face or profile shots this time around so sorry that it is just a picture of the baby's sex. Apparently he is shy. Must have been having a bad hair day or something:) Boy name ideas anyone?

Dance Dance Ethan!

One day Ethan suddenly started dancing to this David Bowie song while we were feeding him in his high chair. Now he almost always starts dancing when we play it! Sometimes he walks up to the computer, looks at one of us, and dances a little to ask us to turn on his song! It's very cute. He made up the dance move himself!

You're Not Going to Believe This

So you know how in my last post I declared that the bathroom is now off limits to Ethan except for bath time because he likes to flush things down the toilet that should never be in a toilet in the first place? Well Ethan is testing my resolve. See for yourself.

This is what Jared found in the master bathroom toilet on Saturday. Yeah, MY BATHROOM toilet! Thank goodness he didn't flush it. What I am going to do with this kid?

Warning...Lots of Updates

I have been behind posting to my blog so here are a few recent updates.

Toilet Troubles

Our toilet suddenly started having problems. I was so bummed because we have had no problems whatsoever since we moved into our house. Every time someone uses the toilet it won't flush anything solid without the use of a plunger. Annoying. Luckily we have two bathrooms so I could simply avoid our guest bathroom. I went out of town for two weeks hoping that when I got back the problem may have solved it self. Nope. Thank goodness my Dad came down for the Fiesta bowl the day after I got home! He was using the guest bathroom during his stay and, of course, he soon noticed our toilet problem. He asked me when the issue with the toilet had started. After I told him about our toilet troubles he said that most likely Ethan had flushed a toy or something down the toilet. The only way to fix the toilet would be to pull the toilet off the floor, tip it upside down and use a hanger to fish out whatever was stuck inside. Oh great!

So after spending $5-$7 at Ace Hardware for parts followed by an hour of getting all the water out of the toilet and getting the toilet off the floor, we found the problem. Ethan had done just what my Dad had predicted. A #2 pencil was stuck in the U of the toilet. No wonder we were having toilet issues. My Dad fished out the pencil and I saved it until Jared got home so that he could see it for himself. So from now on the bathroom is completely off limits for Ethan except for bath time every night.

They say life will never be the same after you have a child. I guess I didn't prepare myself for situations like this. But never fear, the toilet is fixed and working great and now if future children or Ethan decided to flush something else down the toilet I know exactly what to do.

My Christmas Present

On Christmas day I opened a gift from Jared. It was a piece of paper that said there was a present waiting for me in Phoenix that was too big to bring on the plane. That meant I would have to wait until I got home to find out what it was!

Jared went home on Christmas day while I stayed in Idaho for six more days. Little did I know that Jared spent three of his six days at home stripping and re-staining our living room table set for my Christmas present. The tables were a carmel color and he re-stained them dark brown. It was a ton of work and took him hours and hours. To fully appreciate the reason why this gift was so meaningful to me I have to share the following story.

We got the tables from a family member for free back in May. I loved them but I wanted them to match our couches and other furniture so I wanted to re-stain them. Jared and I went to Home Depot one day to get some supplies and I found the stripper and varnish section of the store. I told Jared about the project I wanted to undergo and he was not excited about it at all. He thought the tables looked fine with our living room and really didn't care if they matched or not. He thought it would be way too much work just to have our tables be dark brown instead of light brown. I finally talked him into buying the stripper, stain and other tools with the condition that I would do the project myself and he wouldn't have to help at all. He agreed with a little reluctance and we made the purchase. This was back in June. I haven't found time to get to the project and now I am pregnant. Of course stripper cannot be used if you are expecting so I had to resign myself to the fact that my table project would be delayed until August of 2010 at best.

So when I came home to find the project completed I was shocked. The tables look absolutely stunning and so much better. I was so touched that Jared had done all that work for me when he was so reluctant about the project in the first place. It was so sweet! I have a the best husband ever! It is the sweetest gift I have ever gotten. Thank you honey!

Christmas in Idaho

This year Jared, Ethan and I flew to Idaho for Christmas. We had a great trip! Jared's sisters drove up from Utah the first night we got there to see us since we were "close". Somehow living in Phoenix makes Salt Lake City seem close. It was so great to see them. Our visit was brief but I was so happy to see my beautiful, wonderful sister -in-laws and my niece Austyn.

Ethan loved Christmas this year. He loved ripping wrapping paper and his favorite gift was push toy that plays music. Ethan experienced his first snow. Grandma and Grandpa bought him a snow suit and he got to use it. The funny thing was that the snow suit was so puffy he couldn't stand himself back up if he fell down. He loved the snow...or should I say he loved eating the snow. The first thing he did once he got outside was to take a huge handful of snow and stuff it in his mouth. It made me wonder if I am starving my child or if he's just a typical boy that will eat anything and everything.

Ethan had another breakthrough on our trip. He started saying quite a few new words. He says hi (but only when he wants to say hi to you, not when you say hi to him), baby, Abby (his cousin's name), mommy instead of just mamma, ball, nana for banana and yesterday he said gampa for grandpa. He walks like a pro now and still shows an undying love for stuffed animals, blankets, books, and anything with a long handle that he can push around. He also loves to fold his arms for prayer. Ethan has decided that he can feed himself with a spoon now. He isn't great at it yet but he does okay. He is into everything these days. I have been come very sensitive to the sound of silence. That sound usually means Ethan is getting into something he knows he shouldn't. Ethan is our greatest joy and we are so thankful to have him in our home.

Being in Idaho for Christmas was awesome. I got to see so many of my loved ones that I haven't seen since last Christmas. I miss everyone already. Being with my sisters, brother-in-law, Mom and Dad was so wonderful and so overdue! I also got to spend lots of time with my adorable niece Abby and, of course, I got extremely attached to her over two weeks. I miss her so much! I also got to talk to my little brother Keith (who is on a mission in Georgia) on Christmas day. It was two weeks full of yummy food, singing christmas songs, watching movies, playing games, going to family gatherings, hugs, long talks with my sisters and mom and so much more. I love my family!

Idaho snow! It was beautiful and a nice change from Arizona!

Coming home was very easy because Jared actually flew home on Christmas day and Ethan and I stayed in Idaho until New Years day. I hated not being with my husband. After he was gone everything was less exciting. Somehow I felt like I was missing a part of myself, even around my family, when we were apart. With the seperation I can tell you my love and appreciation for him grew ten fold and I was so excited to see him when it was time to go home. I love my husband so much!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
